The USF softball team fell in their first game of the day to Southern Miss, but the Bulls were able to rebound in the second game, beating UAB 6-2. With the afternoon win, the Bulls made into the last day of C-USA play. The Bulls will play Louisville tomorrow at 11:00 AM, with the winner playing at 2:00.

In the first game, Southern Miss' Felicia Gonzales was able to shut down the USF offense, allowing only three hits, and pitching a shutout. Jessi Kowal only allowed four hits. Kenya Peters led off the fourth, getting hit to take first base with no one out. Peters later scored on back to back singles from the bottom of Southern Miss' lineup.

The Bulls couldn't get anything going offensively. Eleven Bulls went down on strikes, as the Bulls lost the game 1-0.

In the afternoon game, the Bulls were playing UAB for the second time in the tournament. The Blazers got ahead in the bottom of the second, scoring a single run. In the top of the third, the Bulls got their offense started. Priscilla Smith lead off the inning with a single into left field. Pinch runner Stephanie Strickland was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Stephanie Roberts. Strickland then scored on a Rena Rodriguez single into center. With two outs, the Bulls scored 5 more runs, capped off by a Courtney Lewellen double and a blast over the score board by Cindy Turek.

The six runs would be all that the Bulls would need, UAB scored another run in the seventh before Jessi Kowal came in for the save. Jamie Peterka picked up the win in the contest, holding the Blazers to only one run, and not allowing an earned run.

With the homer, Turek ties both the USF single season record and the freshman record, both held by USF legend, Monica Triner. Another USF freshman is cracking the record books. Shelly Riker now has a total of 28 stolen bases on the season. This gives her the freshman record, and she needs only two more to tie the USF single season record.

The Bulls will play Louisville tomorrow at 11:00. With a win, the Bulls will play a semifinal game with the loser of the DePaul vs. Southern Miss contest. That game was suspended due to thunder storms in the area. For the Bulls to win the tournament, they will be forced to win three games tomorrow with the championship now moved to 4:00 PM. With a win in the first game tomorrow, the Bulls' second game would be televised on FOX Sports Net Florida at 2:00 Eastern Time.
